EMERGENCY WATER STORAGE

If you receive a warning of impending disaster (snowstorm, hurricane, tornado) fill all spare containers with water. Clean, sterile containers are ideal, but water can be stored in non-sterile containers for flushing toilets, laundry, etc. Drinking water should be filtered/purified. Quantity is your first concern. You can filter water as you need it.

EMERGENCY WATER SOURCE

Is your water heater. Turn off the water supply to your whole house. Turn off the water heater. Let it cool. Screw backup shutoff valve into the drain valve. Open the pressure relief valve. Open the drain valve. Use the pressure relief valve to control the water flow. Close the drain valve when done.

WATER PURIFICATION

Using bleach - Use liquid household bleach to disinfect water. Add 1/4 teas per gallon of water. Shake and let set for 30 minutes. Double the amount of bleach if water is cloudy. Double the amount for every 6 months you have had the bleach. Double the amount and re=treat if the water does not small like leach after 30 minutes.
